Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my Dog or Horse need physiotherapy?
A physiotherapy treatment can be broken down to three, equally important parts that each benefit your pet in different ways: assessment, treatment and rehabilitation.
The assessment will identify any areas of discomfort or dysfunction, which is vital in avoiding animals suffering in silence. Your pet cannot speak to you, so its the professionals jobs to interpret and educate on how everyone can communicate with their animals better.
The treatment will help rescue these discomforts and dysfunctions. It provides your pet with many benefits such as stress, anxiety and pain relief, reduction in muscle tension, increase in blood supply to muscles, and improvements in tissue extensibility and joint mobility.
Finally, the rehabilitation section will allow you to continue positively impacting your pet while at home. This is through, but not limited to, formulation of a personalised exercise plan and individualised advice.
Do I need to talk to my vet before I can book a physiotherapy treatment?
It is not essential for you to have a consultation with your veterinarian before attending a physiotherapy treatment with us, however, if the reason for your treatment is injury or post surgery care etc your vet may want to see you to assess fitness for physiotherapy. Before your treatment session, we will communicate with your vet because a multidisciplinary approach is always optimal.
How often should my animal have a physiotherapy treatment?
This is very animal dependent, we will advise on each session a timespan before the next. Often injury recovery will require more frequent sessions during early stages and then time between treatments can increase as recovery progresses. Maintenance treatments for all animals is recommended every 3-6 months to ensure your pet is still on the right tracks for sustainable health and fitness.
